The Only Girl At The Party Excited She's Got Her Period

Have you ever been that girl at the party, the gym, work, that suddenly gets her period and doesn’t have a tampon? Well that was me..but instead of jumping into panic mode, I cried with happiness! One of my personal struggles with Insulin Resistance and PCOS has always been the irregularity of my menstrual cycle. In hindsight, what is most concerning is that post diagnosis, now over 10 years ago, I was prescribed a LOW GI diet, 5 meals a day, lots of exercise and what felt like a pharmacy of medications. Safe to say this did not work, and my periods stopped indefinitely. Then I was advised to go on the pill. The hits just kept coming. So... how after 4 years did I actually get my first natural period? OMAD-One Meal a Day Most people know I love the idea of fasting for lots of reasons. The one meal a day model of eating works super effectively for my weight loss, reversing my Hashimotos, increasing energy levels, improved skin and now REGULATING MY CYCLE! (probably more, to be continued...) I strongly advise giving fasting a go! We have a full blog on the benefits of fasting if you would like more information, https://www.leanco.com.au/post/my-no-1-top-tip-for-fat-loss *Hot 3 Tips - Stay busy, keep salt levels up, and have strategies in place when you feel like your discipline is wavering, e.g call a friend, go for a walk. Stopping THE PILL After years of thinking the pill was the answer to all my period problems turns out maybe it was the one thing that was getting in the way? My skin did clear up. For so long I held onto that clear skin, feeling like I couldn’t come off the pill, it was literally the one symptom I had under control!  But reluctantly, after further research, a recommendation from my low carb Physician and amazing support networks, I made the decision to come off it. I was so full of fear! But hello only six weeks later my first period came! This may sound like it was easy but don’t discount the full 12 months of Keto, intermittent fasting, self development, goal setting and activity work that was put in. *Tip - Do your research! Look at your situation, talk to your GP/Specialist and consider whether you need to be on the pill or is there a more holistic solution to your symptoms? Goals into acquisition Don’t forget to tell people your goals! Not just for the accountability factor but because I believe you have to put them out into the world. Getting a natural period had been a goal of mine for years but I hadn’t actually told anyone. It was nearly a month to the date that I told my mum this goal that I got my first period. That has to mean something, right!? *Tip - Choose carefully who you open up too. Remember to pick the right type of person to tell your goals, shame stories and vulnerabilities. “You share with people who have earnt the right to hear your story”. For a list of the wrong types of people, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8Pp7QB6GrE Travelling Stress, the daily 9-5 grind, routines, pressure… I believe does NOT do a body good, girl. My 6 week holiday in the European sun taught me so much. It taught me to love myself first, to be more connected with people/nature/family/friends, swim in the sun and to work on getting outside my comfort zone. Planning a holiday around work, kids, all the excuses you can think of, is difficult. But finding a way to expand your day to day lifestyle, shake up your routine and start giving yourself more opportunities to be healthier and happier is imperative moving forward! Tip* - Switch it up! Okay..so maybe we all can’t jet off to Italy for the summer but you can make a switch. Visit a different beach, try a different walking route/hike, drive somewhere cool to have a coffee, take a book to read! Try a new class at the gym, get a spray tan, get a new haircut! Treat yourself, and if you HAVE wanted that holiday for years...start planning and saving today. You’ve got to make it happen, because you deserve it.
