The 333 Challenge - Be More With Less

Welcome to 2020 everyone! It’s a new year and a new decade! Who’s ready for a challenge?

Over the last year I have been more conscious of my consumption levels in not just food but in clothes, make up, skincare, other material things and the effects it is having on both my health and the environment. After watching the Minimalist Documentary on Netflix over the weekend, I was inspired to try the 333 Challenge.

The 333 Challenge is wearing 33 items of clothing for 3 months. This includes work attire, active-wear, shoes, swimmers, accessories. Things excluded are underwear, socks and in my case ski gear (for my trip to Japan in February). When selecting the items and thinking about the next 3 months of travelling I will be doing to Melbourne, winter in Japan and beaching in Wollongong,I won’t lie,it was really difficult, and don’t get me started on the shoes!

After mentioning it to Brenda (who is always up for any challenge) she said “I’ll do it too!”

So what does 33 items of clothing look like?

My understanding of leading a minimalist lifestyle is only having what you need and use. We are all susceptible to over consuming.Clothes spread over multiple wardrobes, over-crowded pantries filled with over-processed foods, vanities of skin care, make-up, tools and remedies.

Where does it start, where does it end?

The beauty of doing this type of challenge, I hope, is to see how many clothes I actually need and wear and who I am wearing them for? Will anyone even notice? Will it give me more freedom or time? Will I save money? I know it will reduce morning “decision fatigue.”

If you would like to try this challenge, jump on board! Even just the practice of selecting the 33 items will be a great way to start being mindful.

Wish us luck!
